Welcome to Harrogate Festival Choral Course
We have just returned from a wonderful course in Harrogate during which the 100 strong choir gave two performances - at Ashville College and in the magnificent Royal Hall. Photos and feedback will appear on the site very soon.
Our 2009 summer course will be held at Queen Ethelburga's College from 25th to 30th August and the major work will be Handel's Israel in Egypt, to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the composer's death. The performance will be in Ripon Cathedral. More information can be found at the foot of this page.
Singers who are interested in joining us for the 2009 course should initially apply by e-mail - info@hfccourse.co.uk. The full application form for 2009 will be available shortly.
'WELCOME YULE!' at The Eltermere.
Our next course 'WELCOME YULE!' will be held from Friday November 28th to Sunday November 30th at The Eltermere Country House Hotel (www.eltermere.co.uk) in Elterwater.
This wonderful family-run hotel sits in spectacular scenery at the gateway to the Langdale Valley in the centre of the Lake District National Park.
Course tutors, Lynn Hudson and Thom Meredith, will lead a weekend of choral singing, appropriate to Advent and the start of the festive season, culminating in a concert in 'The Church of the Langdales', Chapel Stile. All residential places are now full but the cost of the course is £140 (including Saturday dinner and Sunday tea) for non-residents.
If you love singing and enjoy excellent food and good company in a wonderful setting, then this course will certainly suit you!
A few places for non-residents are still available so, for more information or to secure a place, contact us directly (01484 651342) or by email (mail@hfccourse.co.uk).
And onto the summer course for 2009. We hope for a choir of over 150 singers for the second Harrogate Festival Choral Course in August which will culminate in a performance of Handel's Israel in Egypt in Ripon Cathderal.
During the course singers will get the chance to sing and perform some shorter pieces for male voices, if you a tenor or bass, or upper voices, if you sing alto or soprano. There'll also be some optional master classes if you want to learn from the experts.
The course will be led by the HFCC team - Lynn Hudson and Thom Meredith, who for several years tutored on the popular Harrogate Choral Week, John Dunford, conductor of both the Ripon and Wetherby Choral Societies and Sue Rosborough, Administrator of Halifax Young Singers.
So, with the team in place, outstanding accommodation and facilities at Queen Ethelburga's College and Ripon Cathedral for the major concert all arranged, there's only one piece in the jigsaw missing...and that's where you come in!
We need singers! If you have some experience of choral singing, whether in a church choir, community group or choral society, would like to take part in a concert in an exceptional venue, and want to make new friends and explore a lovely part of the country, then this is just the course for you.
Places are available on both a residential and non-residential basis. To register your interest please send an e-mail to info@hfccourse.co.uk and Sue will contact you when full details are available.
